Morrisons extends Too Good To Go partnership across convenience stores

Morrisons is extending its partnership with Too Good To Go by adding around 930 Morrisons Daily convenience stores to its service platform.

Founded in 2015, Too Good To Go is a mobile app service that aims to connect customers to restaurants and stores that have surplus unsold food.

Morrisons previously conducted a trial in various locations across North England, the midlands and Wales, enabling app users to purchase Too Good To Go’s Surprise bags of surplus food at a reduced cost.

Surprise Bags allow customers to enjoy quality food which is approaching its sell-by-date at a reduced price by reserving the food package in advance. Users can then choose their nearest Morrisons Daily store to collect them at a fixed time.

The supermarket chain recorded over 40,000 surprise bags were purchased across the region during the trial.

With the move, the grocery store aims to renew its commitment to reduce food waste and its environmental impact, as the grocery store recently published research showing that food waste currently accounts for 10 per cent of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

Since its launch in November 2019, the partnership has expanded to include nearly 500 supermarkets across the UK, including Morrisons Market Kitchen and Cafés, and has served around 2.3 million Surprise Bags of food which would have otherwise been wasted.

Senior sustainability manager for Morrisons Andrew Edlin, emphasised how the initiative aims to help customers reduce their spending while hitting its sustainability targets.

“We are delighted to be rolling the bags out to some of our Morrisons Daily convenience stores,” he added.

Too Good To Go services currently cover major European cities. In October the firm started its operations in North America.
